About the Life in the UK Test

The Life in the UK Test can only be taken at approved Home Office Test Centres. You can book your test online at http://www.lifeintheuktest.gov.uk

When booking your test make sure you read the instructions carefully and enter your details as they appear on your identification. You must book your test at least 7 days in advance.

You must take the test as part of your application for British citizenship or to become a permanent resident of the UK.

The test consists of 24 multiple choice questions based on ALL parts of the Life in the UK Official Handbook. You need to get 18 out of 24 questions correct to pass the test. The test questions are different for each person taking the test.

You have 45 minutes to complete the test.

You will need a copy of the Official Handbook Life in the United Kingdom: A Guide For New Residents 3rd Edition published by TSO.

You may also like to get a copy of Life in the United Kingdom Official Study Guide, and Life in the United Kingdom Official Practice Questions and Answers to help with your studies.

There is also A Practical Guide To Living In The United Kingdom that contains useful everyday information on law, work, money, housing (buying & renting), marriage & family, health, education & community.
