IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. The IELTS test is used to measure English proficiency for people who work or study in environments where English is used for communication. It is a very widely recognised qualification in the UK
IELTS identifies 9 proficiency levels from band score 1 (non-user) to band score 9 (expert). Many universities and other institutions have a minimum entry requirement of IELTS overall band score 6.5 (competent user)
There are two types of IELTS test:
IELTS Academic is for people who wish to apply for higher education, study at university, or register with a professional organisation in an English speaking environment.
IELTS General is for people who are in English speaking countries for secondary education, work experience and training programmes.
IELTS General is a migration requirement in some countries, including the UK.
Both of the IELTS tests assess your speaking, listening, reading & writing, although there are some important differences. To find out more about the IELTS tests, band scoring or to book a test please visit the Official IELTS Website
